Issue no. 19 of Le Simplegadi
Story-Telling and Equitable Inter-Connections in Languages and Literatures
Issue no. 19 explores story-telling and literary texts as representations of reciprocal and caring relationships through which social division and exclusion are effectively transcended and equitable inter-connections are fostered. In times where individuals are influenced to avoid expressions of empathy and mutual understanding towards out-groups such as marginalized women, minorities, immigrants and the poor, literary works play a crucial role in valuing the dignity of life and of every human being beyond narrow nationalisms, authoritarian structures and patriarchal domination. To create new empathetic and caring inter-connections we need, as Riane Eisler highlights, “stories and beliefs that do not idealize, normalize, or eroticize domination and violence but rather promote equal linking amongst human beings based on the power to nurture, to support, to create and to accomplish things together.”
We therefore welcome submissions focusing on the following areas of interest:
– the role of story-telling in fostering a culture of peace as a creative model for socio-cultural transformation;
– the language of empathy and the representation of equitable relationships in films, media and social media;
– empathetic narratives in Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, Modern and Contemporary Literatures and Languages;
– empathy and equitable inter-connections in social relationships and inter-cultural representations.
